Steve and I got the distinct pleasure of attending our church's sausage supper this past Sunday. We realized just how seriously people around here take their sausage! First we had to turn our original tickets into tickets with numbers on them. Then you get ushered into the "holding area". Once someone comes to get you, you then get herded into the sanctuary. There you wait until the number on your ticket is called. That's when you get to walk down the hall into the basement, and into the "dessert room." You pick out the dessert of your choice and walk to the serving line. There you are handed a tray and plate. They serve you HUGE portions with refills of whatever you want! Sausage, homemade sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, corn, and applesauce. When you finished through the line, you were ushered to a table. Let me tell you, it was quite the process! Steve was in heaven!
There is really nothing else new here except the weather which seems to be the most talked about topic among everyone. I witnessed a weather phenomenon yesterday. The day started out at 67 degrees. Lunch was beautiful but with a few too many wind gusts. By the time I got back to the office, we were under a tornado warning. By 3:00 the temp had dropped 30 degrees and it was sleeting. 3:45 brought us some snow, and winds that pushed me across the parking lot. Yes, it was certainly something to see! Today is cold with the threat of 6 inches of snow on Thursday night into Friday. Steve and I are hoping for a snow day!
For one of Steve's classes he has to teach religion at a school. He got placed with a 7th grade class, which is not the part that he minds, for 80 minutes, that's the part he minds. Thankfully there are only two full weeks left of this quarter!

Oops
I know my last blog said that I would write again after our interview, but life happened and well the rest is history. Our lives have seemed extremely busy lately. Upon reflecting why, I have no idea! So I'll start with last week.
I had a traumatic Wednesday, when cooking supper I burned my pinkie finger. I have never felt pain like that before. It was red, swollen, blistered and throbbed. But on the upside, it got me out of doing the dishes for the night!
Late Friday afternoon we had our vicarage interview. The man who conducts the interview was a strange fellow. Somehow we got on the topic of floral arrangements, and he couldn't think of the name of the green foam that you use. So he googled it. Then asked us a few more questions. Then he called his sister at work...no answer. So then he tried her cell phone...no answer. He then went back to Google. Then he asked his assistant. Finally we got back to the rest of the interview, until right at the end he tried to Google it again. Finally I picked up my phone handed it to Steve and said call your Grandma, she'll know. Sure enough she did, and we finished our interview! Whew. Actually the interview went well. We discussed our hopes for our vicarage year and the kind of church and geographical area we would prefer. We are hopeful that God will lead us to a great experience. Oh, by the way, the green foam is called Oasis.
Later that night we attended a birthday party. Saturday night we attended another friends gathering. Sunday brought us one of the best days all year...a Giants win over the Cowboys. No one said they could do it, but we had faith! I think the best part of the game was watching Tony Romo get mad, their coach look like a jerk, and T.O. cried. Now we just have those pesky Packers to deal with. Actually if the Giants don't even show up we will be OK, because they knocked out the Cowboys. A win would be sweet though.
So the rest of our week was a blur of work, school, meetings, and fellowship. I think tomorrow we get to actually spend time together. What a novel idea!

Weather huh?
I haven't blogged for a while, so I thought that I would update you all on our happenings. New Years Day was cold and a few flakes fell. Wednesday welcomed me back to work with really cold temps, I'm talking about a wind chill in the teens (that is really cold here). Our apartment was nice and drafty, so we decided to put plastic on our windows before we bothered to heat our house and part of the outside. What great fun we had! It even raised the temp in here by two degrees. All was toasty inside, actually a little too toasty. By the weekend the temp was up in the 60's, by Monday it was 73!!!!! We watched the weather and it is supposed to drop again, so we didn't want to take the plastic off, so we had to turn on the central air! Go figure.
I guess I got a little ahead of life, so I'll back up. The weekend after Christmas, was a big event for Steve. He preached his first official sermon, as a seminary student, at our field work church. He did a great job! I only attended the Saturday night service, but I hear from many people at church that Sunday was even better! One person even commented that his children's message was what they have been waiting for! It was that good! Just as we all would have expected from him!
We had a fun New Years Eve celebration at our friends house. New Year's Day lead to the eventful plastic on the window, and relaxation. Then we went to Forest Park to test out Steve's new Frisbee's and ending up spending another day at the St. Louis zoo. It was a great day to be there; all the animals were nice and lively. We even got to see a few frisky penguins.
Now we are back into the full swing of things. Steve's back in school, and I'm back to work. This Friday we will have our vicarage interview. It is the first step in the placement process for our vicarage. I'll try to update more after the interview.

Almost back to real life.....
Well, the Christmas season has come to a close, as we rang in the New Year. I don't know about you, but I am not ready to get back to "real" life just yet. We had a GREAT Christmas season. It just seems like the season goes faster and faster every year and this year was no different. We have included some of our pictures from the past few weeks during all of our celebrations.
Along with the new year, comes the promise of resolutions. I am finding that it is really kind of silly to have all of these "new plans" for a "new year". Every year we make these plans to change something, and I don't know about you, but I never stick to mine for any length of time. I am hoping that this year will be different, maybe I am just being optimistic.
Going back a ways to our fun Christmas vacation..... Luckily it wasn't reminiscent of the National Lampoons Christmas Vacation! We traveled to MN, to celebrate with the Seitzer family. Sunday my two sisters and their husbands and my nieces came to the farm to celebrate Christmas. It was a fantastic day! Unfortunately it ended early due to the horrific wind and blowing snow. A drive that normally takes them 1 1/2 hours, took 3. We had SO much fun playing with our nieces and chatting with our family.
We enjoyed Christmas Eve and Day with my parents, not doing much other than eating and playing with the new Wii that my parents got for Christmas. What a blast! Steve prayed for 6 inches of snow so he could go snowmobiling, and on Christmas Day we experienced the most picturesque snowfall ever! He didn't quite get his 6 inches, but it was enough to enjoy.
We were lucky enough to travel to the twin cities to have lunch with my sister and look at her wedding photos, which were gorgeous! Then we went to my other sister's house to visit and play again. I just can't get enough of those girls!!!
We hurried home to catch some snowmobiling time. Yes, I got back on the snowmobile not even a whole year after the accident. I do have to say that I was very apprehensive, which is new for me. I have always been fearless and up for a challenge. I have always tried to prove that I can play with the big boys! I realized on the snowmobiling trip, that I am OK if I don't. It was fun to get back out there.
After our fantastic trip to MN, we came back to MO. We came home to an overflowing tree full of gifts! Our family in NJ sent us wonderful gifts that we opened Friday morning. It was fun to "pretend" it was Christmas morning all over again! Santa wasn't so good to Steve, as he brought him lots of peas (which Steve hates).
Well, I have rambled enough.
I hope that your Christmas and New Year was a great time with family and friends. We are looking forward to all of the excitement that the new year will bring us!
